Lately I have been writing about Twilight Party Ideas...all
the time. I find myself, like many other Twilight movie and
book fans, quite obsessed. Perhaps dazzled is a better
word...obsession sounds a little over the line, don't you
think. I am very, very dazzled.

When I decided to, finally, read the Stephanie Meyer Saga I
was not prepared for what I was about to experience. I still
have to remember to breathe again every time I hear, or
read, the words "I was unconditionally and irrevocably in
love with him". I don't know why the word irrevocably has
such an effect on me...but it does. I guess it's because
there is absolutely no doubt of Bella's intense and
unchangeable feelings for Edward. They are...and they will
always be. Nothing can ever, ever change it. It's certainly
right at the very top of my favorite Twilight quote
list...and that's a long list, a very long list.

I bought the first novel and went on my merry way home to
read it. It seemed like an easy choice and I knew, with my
history of "love of vampire romances" I would enjoy reading
it. I am, after all, a solid Buffy fan charmed by Angel, and
all the others vamp stories I have enjoyed, like Lost Boys
and Blade. I began to read it that night...without stopping,
finished it in the wee hours of the morning. I can't
remember the last time any book had my undivided attention,
like this one did. And for a Vampire Romance story...yes, I
do like Vampires...but nonstop reading all night? I was even
more surprised when I went out the very next day and bought
New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn and eagerly dove into
reading them with a vengeance. Four days later I was done.
So...four books in five days, Jillian...it's quick, but not
amazing...I say it is amazing. I still continued to go to my
full time job for 9 hours a day and I did have to sleep.
Given the size of the Twilight novels, I'd certainly say
it's quite a feat. The funny thing is, it's not an unusual
feat if your familiar with the history of this Saga's
readers. Many people are as caught up in the story as I am,
either that, or all Twilight readers are speed readers who
race through four very large novels in a matter of days. I
don't think that's it.

Another thing I am confused about is why I haven't read
"Host" by Stephanie Meyer. I am quite satisfied with the
Twilight Saga (though I do want more). If it's not about
Edward, Bella and the rest of the Cullens, I'm not
interested. I am sure I will read it at some point, I just
don't have to right now. I did, however, read the chapters I
found online of "Midnight Sun", the book that we will never
get to complete unless Stephanie changes her mind about
completing it. I guess I am in a Twilight Saga fog...and I'm
not alone with that aspect of this obsession...I mean, this
state of dazzle. I forgot, I don't want to say
obsession...I'd rather stay in denial regarding the state of
my involvement with Edward and the rest of the characters.

Your birthday is around the corner and you still haven't
come up with a theme for the party. You're out of ideas and
you start to panic- what should you do? Well, while
everybody else has notions of princesses and fairies as
their themes, why don't you try something different and more
interesting? Think Twilight Party Ideas.

The Twilight book saga has been sensational so you know that
parties based on these are going to be surefire hits. If you
want your party to be memorable, then you should have a
Twilight-themed party. How to get started? It's quite
simple.

Let's begin with the basics- make your own party
invitations. Cut thick papers into 5 inch by 5 inch squares.
Blood red papers would be nice. Download an eerie picture of
any Twilight scene you like (you can find these in the net).
Glue one picture for each paper and attach a small black
ribbon on top. Put the party details at the back of the
paper in black ink.

Now let's talk about decorations. Naturally, it should match
the atmosphere depicted in the movie. Something dark, with
lots of twinkle lights to make it enchanting would be great.
Alice Cullen always planned the parties in the book saga,
and Alice went crazy with twinkle lights!

Prepare a black satin table cloth. If you can't find black,
use red. Set the table. Make sure to put juicy red apples on
top of each plate. Jelly Apples would work too. Put some red
food coloring in melted butter and pour it on top of freshly
popped pop corn. That will help the popcorn to look a little
vampy.

Place some candles on the table. If you can get hold of an
antique-looking table candle set, it would surely make the
whole set up more suitable for the occasion. Put posters of
Edward and Bella, the Cullens, and other vampires on the
walls of the party area.

Get some party music going! Play some eerie music. Classics
such as Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor and Brahms Piano
Quintet in G minor are quintessential spooky music. Too dark
for you? Then use the music soundtrack from the Twilight
movie!

Naturally, no party is complete without a party punch. To
make it more attuned to the theme, you should prepare a red
party punch. All you need are: 2 cups apple juice, 4 cups
cranberry juice, and 1.5L lime beverage...I use whichever
one I find in the grocery store freezer. Mix them all
together and put some ice just before serving.

Now you are ready for an unforgettable Twilight-themed
birthday party! Since the DVD was just released for sale,
why not have a movie viewing for your guests. Play some
trivia games and you can make up a Jeopardy game easily with
the help of one or more of the books. I have been dazzled by
Edward and am a big fan of the Twilight Saga and movies, I
would enjoy watching the movie with my friends and I am sure
your friends would enjoy it too.

Cheeky Theo scribbled his mobile number on a scrap of paper
and tossed it into Mels basket and his friend did the same.
The romance had begun and Melanie Slade and Theo Walcott

I've come to believe in recent years that living in Mexico , and for a variety of reasons, is as close as you can get to living in The Twilight Zone. The reasons for this are not all Mexican, I have to say from the beginning. Some are, maybe even most, but it is most certainly like living in another dimension in which time itself functions along a different quantum phase making living here, well, interesting in a maddening sort of way.

In case you've forgotten or are too young to recall,

"The Twilight Zone is an American television anthology series created by Rod Serling. Each episode (156 in the original series) is a mixture of self-contained fantasy, science fiction, or horror, often concluding with a macabre or unexpected twist." - Wikipedia

Let me just venture to say that this describes Life in Mexico depending on where you live, or course, and to what degree genuine education has infiltrated and usurped Mexican provincialism.

For a little bit of "self-contained fantasy, science fiction, or horror..." go to YouTube and type in "Flying Humanoid" and be prepared for a belly-busting laugh. In Monterrey, according to one report, a policeman, mind you, a Cop fainted when we saw the flying and cackling thingee zoom at him, so he says, from a tree.

Whatever "The Flying Humanoid" is, and frankly I don't care, this sort of thing happens in this country and is accepted as real as the air through which the thing flies with nothing to prove otherwise. "Let's test this hypothesis" does not apply in a lot of Provincial Mexico.

Another reason this is like The Twilight Zone is, in a word, Gringos! Apart from being rabid liberals, most of them anyway, they move here with the nuttiest ideas and beliefs.

"Are they all Mexican here?"

"Look at what that Spanish man is doing."

"I wanted change, not pesos."

"You call this a taco?"

My wife and I were in a church in the Mexican highlands when a funeral procession began. As we were trying to politely and reverently excuse ourselves from the family's mournful gathering, we saw a handful of Gringos parade past us, dressed in "Gidget-goes-to-the-beach" wear (I was frankly surprised no one had folding patio chairs), with cameras at the ready. As the family opened the casket these California-Dreamers rushed the front for a photo shoot. We could hear the whine of the snapping shutters and see the subsequent flashing.

What prompted today's Blog was my wife and I witnessing yet another funeral procession being regarded by Gringo tourists as a photo-op. There they stood as the hearse pulled up to the church clicking away trying to get as many photos of some poor family's loved one's funeral.

Do you suppose that these Americans who stood there gawking like they were at the circus snapping photos of a parade as fast as they could would react kindly to foreigners imposing themselves on their mother's funeral?

Why Americans come to Mexico and engage in behaviors they would not possibly try in the States is beyond my ability to comprehend. In America do they jump in the car when they hear the neighbor's infant died with camera in hand just frothing at the mouth to get photos? Can you image the ensuing fist fight, or worse, that would erupt? The lawsuits? And, yet, I have seen this now more than once happen in Mexico. Is it that Americans think because they've forked over money to come here that they are ENTITLED to commit such a barbaric act of filming some poor, mourning Mexican family's funeral?

I mean, really!

Before the movie there was the book. And the book is the root of all evil...erhm...awesomeness that was then transformed into a movie. These vampires share similar qualities with other vampires and it's interesting to see where Meyer takes the other folklore. Granted she may have gone too far with Renesmee, but she sold it and supported her ideas and people loved it.

Another reason why girls love the Twilight series is the boys, duh. Edward has the tortured soul that taps into every girl's motherly instinct. We want to take him up into our arms, cuddle with him, and make everything all right.

Same goes for Jacob. Besides the fact that he's drop dead gorgeous (in our minds and as portrayed by Taylor), he's the best friend that every girl wants in a guy. Someone to talk to and spend nights with. He's warm (what girl isn't cold, seriously), and he goes to the ends of the earth for Bella. Granted its because he prematurely imprinted on Renesemee, but that's another story.

Besides all those reasons, the real reason is how girls can easily identify with Bella. They share a connection. Every woman has been torn between to guys, loved someone, and lost them. They've had to balance friends with a relationship. All Twilight does is show one girls way to handle being a teenager.

When people put down Twilight to fans, the best way for you, the fan, to debate them is to remind them of how the book is easy to read, involves love, danger and heartache. Don't forget how identifiable Bella is. Don't forget to tell them to shut up and read the book before they talk.

Fast forward to the present and Anna is now thirteen. She is
now being asked to donate one of her kidneys for Kate. This
time she wants to refuse, and Anna resorts to legal counsel
for help. She wants medical emancipation. And this is where
the whole gripping drama starts to unfold. The legal battle
is emotionally difficult for everyone because Anna is suing
her mother, not to mention that Anna is a minor. The court
proceedings are held in utmost care to avoid unnecessary
trauma to all the parties involved.

I liked the story if only for the fact that it emphasized
the importance of making your own decisions in life and
relying on no one else other than yourself. At thirteen,
even with trembling and cold feet, Anna stood up for what
she thought was right. It was not a matter anymore of being
selfish or loving a sister any less if she does not want to
donate an organ. It's just all about having enough and
saying NO because she feels it so. It did not diminish the
love she feels for the family as well. How many of us at
such an early age could muster that kind of courage and
actually get a lawyer to get what you want? It is no easy
decision especially when faced with a dying sister. Although
it is fictional, Anna is an inspiration to me because she
has the spirit that I don't have to get the kick I want to
happen in my life.

However, the author wasted her efforts in building up the
scenes to a very compelling climax and then afterwards
settling for a very safe albeit highly improbable
denouement. It could have been a very fitting end in the
courtroom when the judge knocked his gavel down after
deciding the fate of Anna. But the author went for a more
sensationalized twist in the last few pages. Sure, the judge
granted medical emancipation after all. But then, on her way
back home, Anna figured in a car accident that left her
brain dead. Her kidney was donated to Kate before the plug
to her respirator machine was finally pulled. And miracle of
miracles, the organ worked perfectly and Kate lives.

Other than the disappointing twist, this book is highly
recommended. Picoult presented the story by shifting first
person narratives from one character to the other. It
allowed readers to peer through the minds of each of them
rather than just being focused on Anna. This style of
writing was very effective in conveying the fact that there
is no clear delineation to morality. Judging what is right
from wrong is never as simple as black and white because we
are presented with different perspectives always. It is not
easy to judge the parents who are just doing their best to
save a dying daughter. It is neither Anna's fault to refuse
to give up her kidney. But as differences arise in a family,
love is the only thing that emanates to respect differing
opinions and keep them together.
